This year our school will once again participate in the Josh Stevens Foundation “Be Kind” program, embracing the message of “being kind”. :)

Be Kind... Spirit Week
September 9-13, 2013
Show your KIND Derfelt spirit and participate! :)
Monday – Be Kind… Backwards Day
Students are encouraged to wear their shirts backwards as an outward sign and reminder that they cannot take back hurtful words said to another person. We must always think before we speak and use our words to help, not hurt. Make someone smile by giving them a thoughtful compliment!
Tuesday – Be Kind… Play Rugby!
“Teamwork Makes the Dream Work” is a famous quote that we hope to instill in students at Derfelt, both on and off the field. One of the newest Olympic sports that truly encompass this message is rugby. Today students will be encouraged to participate in some kind of sport to promote team building and exercise of the mind/body. Take time to get together with a group of kids and prove that teamwork does make the dream work.
Wednesday – Be Kind… USA Day (Patriot’s Day)
Proud to be an American day! Students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue to show our love and support for our country. Josh was never afraid to stand up for what he believed in, in his honor, be forever strong and spread the “Be Kind” message to someone who is unfamiliar with the Josh Steven Foundation (what they stand for and the message the spread).
Thursday – Be Kind… Aloha Spirit Day!
Students are encouraged to wear Hawaiian wear (shirts, leis, etc.) in the spirit of the Hawaiian saying “Spread Da Aloha!”. Spreading the kindness message is something very valued at Derfelt. Josh was such a great friend to everyone. Take time to make a new friend and show them an act of kindness.
Friday – Be Kind… Sports Day
Being a KIND team player and having good character are valued qualities at Derfelt. Students are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team jersey/shirt in honor of Josh and his love for sports. Josh was a team player who always encouraged others to give it their all and to “try”. Take time today to help someone “try” !
